Welcome!!
My name is Pete and this page is devoted to exploring the sport of Kiteboarding. I was inspired by an internet Blog (Ill give it credits if I find the site again :-) maintained by a group of friends who documented their experiences picking up the sport. I hope to do the same.
I hope you find these pages useful and interesting. Enjoy.
Pete

Disclamer: Kiteboarding is an extreme sport and can be dangerous. In these pages I simply share my experiences (im a beginner). I do not make suggestions.

Ok, now to fly...

Summer, 2006.
.

It aint so easy finding the perfect windy day. Ive headed down to the waterfront a few times and had to turn back because the wind was not sufficient. However, I was finally able to get it in the air !!!!!!!!!!!! So far, only on land and unhooked but its powerful man. Very powerful when the wind catches it. Marc helped launch and Reney, well she was board watching us trying to figure out the rigging... Too bad its so late in the season. Will have to wait till next year to get it onto the water.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have a kite.

I bought a kite! A fine Cabrinha contra from some folks at silent sports in toronto. Somewhat pricey but I figure if Im really gonna give this a try I might as well get the safest available. I chose the Cabrinha after my name brother Pete Cabrinha who is a pioneer in the sport with tons of kiteboarding, big wave surfing and windsurfing experience.

So some time passed and one day surfing the web I hit kiteaddict.com and decided to give them a shout. I soon received a reply from Paul who kindly told me he had a in class lesson on thursday. Actually it was not until a bit later that I attended but attend I did. The class was comfortable, held in a nice clean condo and Paul talked for a couple of hours. Feverently, I wrote down details about kite size, necessary wind conditions, locations, safety equipment. Essentially, It was a good way to ensure this sport was worth a go. Its a bit expensive on the gear side but whatever right? After the class a dude from the class pointed out that Boardsports was hosting a equipment swap that weekend....
P.S. I found the guys who inspired me to do this... hillarious, actually popped up in the payin bills column :-) check em out: kitebytes.com
Lets give this a shot!!

Some background to start...

I'm an avid rollerblader (hey, maybe Ill make a page for rollerblading too!!) and skate the ashbridges bay path quite often. Earlier this year, I noticed huge kites by the beach and it got me wondering what it was all about. So of course, I check out google... yup found the sport, its called kiteboarding (sometimes refered to as kitesurfing). Looks awsome... Id like to try it... hmmm, how, where, how much... So cool. I think ill explore this.
